An Unexpected Path

Women Food and God: An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything

This past week there was a lot of buzz about a book called “Women,Food, and God”.  The author, Geneen Roth was on the Oprah show. She also had a great interview with Alex Mandosian which you can listen to.
I share this with you because it got me thinking how this book can also relate to childbirth and parenting.
Childbirth encompasses so many feelings and changes; fear, worry, enthusiasm, excitement … changes in friendships, family members, even with the partner. Yet it goes deeper than that. It challenges a woman’s internal being of who she is and her abilities to birth a baby. Just like parenting, that constantly begs the question “am I doing the right thing in caring for my child?”
Using food as comfort, an activity when bored, stressed, etc., can be a numbing means to avoid what’s really going on - beneath the layers of emotion and the desire to mask it.  When it comes to pregnancy and birth most women embrace it while a few may be in denial, or detached from it.
This book, I think can help all women (and men) – regardless what the situation or circumstance is, overweight or not, pregnant or not, a parent or not.
This book speaks to our core in self-love and acceptance of who we are.
Because,  when we appreciate ourselves and see our true individual, innate abilities – our potential is limitless – no matter what is happening in our lives.
